A museum that begins
in the landscape.
At Rancho Akar, we envision a place to discover the memory of the desert: its rocks, waterways, cycles and living communities. The landscape is the starting point for an experience connecting observation, knowledge and sensitivity.
The master plan includes a museum within the estate. This initial vision explores the relationship between nature and culture, in dialogue with the landscape work of Ale de la Cerda and Tejido Paisaje.

The Desert Museum and Akar Reserve share a sensitivity to the land. The museum’s vision focuses on understanding it and sharing that perspective with those who visit the ranch.

Open to imagination.
Alongside the open-air art trail, we imagine galleries nestled within the land. Sunken courtyards and light wells connect art, stone and sky, while native planting carries the landscape over their roofs.

We imagine an open-air museum where art begins with listening: to the land, to its rhythms, and to those who inhabit it.
We invite artists to work with stone, light, wind and time. To create works that belong to this landscape, awaken curiosity and deepen our relationship with the living world.
We welcome proposals rooted in dialogue with the place and its communities, attentive to its fragility and open to the changes of the seasons.
